Russia demands inquiry into attack on hospital in Kunduz

MOSCOW, Oct. 06 (MNA) – Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday demanded an objective investigation of the air strike by US aircraft to a hospital in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz that killed at least 20 people.

Russia recalls that in Afghanistan similar events occurred before, when the indiscriminate use of US and NATO military force in Afghanistan led to the deaths of innocent civilians, said the official spokesperson Maria Zajarova.

Several newscasts indicate that the hospital run by Doctors Without Borders , in northern Afghanistan, suffered severe damage with a death toll of more than 20 people between patients and health personnel, because of the bombing perpetrated on October 3rd, on suspected Taliban positions, according to the US military command.

It is impossible not to agree -stressed Zajarova- in the fact that the attack qualifies as a flagrant violation of international law.

The non-governmental humanitarian organization blamed the US government, whose officials argued that the target of the attack were Taliban fighters. Doctor Without Borders denied the presence of armed militia in the hospital.

According to the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, it is irrational and baffling due to the fact that the forces of the international coalition (NATO led by the United States) had the coordinates of the hospital to prevent any attack in that area.

Moscow condemns this unjustified bombing and demands an objective investigation of the incident in Kunduz leading to a punishment of those responsible, insisted Zajarova to the Russian News Service.

Various sources attributed the attack at dawn on Saturday to aircraft of the Air Force of the United States. Doctors Without Borders denounced the bombing lasted for over an hour at intervals of 15 minutes between raids.
